Choosing the Right Fabric for your waterbed sheets
As the sheets for standard beds, choosing the right fabric for your waterbed sheets can be make a difference in sleeping comfort. There are many fabrics and quality of choices that can affect not only comfort but other things as well.
Among the things to consider when buying waterbed sheets are kind of fabric. Cotton is always a popular choice for bed sheets. Cotton is long lasting and can be quite comfortable. As with other fabrics cotton waterbed sheets are located in a rainbow of different colors and print styles.
Cotton sheets are located in different weaves and finishes. It is important to know that not all cotton is created equal and the same is true for cotton waterbed sheets. Muslin is thought by many folks to be a little too rough in texture although many people like the feeling. There are also regional differences in cotton that can affect the feel of the fabric as well as quality.
Some domestically grown cotton can vary in fiber length and overall softness Often referred as the Pima and supima, this variety of cotton is coming from the American Southwest and is similar in texture to cotton from Egypt and other parts of the Middle East. Cotton grown the American South has a slightly shorter length fiber and can not feel as soft.
Many consider the men Egyptian cotton to be the gold standard and cotton from this area of the world is characterized by longer and softer fibers. There was a time when Egyptian cotton is available only in fine linen store. The advent of free trade and the demand for quality Egyptian cotton linens are made more affordable and waterbed sheets made from fine cotton is less widely available.
Cotton waterbed sheets are available in a flat weave and thread count is a major determinant of quality. The higher the thread count, the higher the quality. There is also a difference price.
Yarn count is measured by the number of threads per square inch. There is a tremendous difference in the feel of two hundred cotton thread count and four hundred thread count cotton. Two hundred thread sheets as thin as a feel four hundred count sheets feel much crisper.
Even more luxurious sheet set thread count 600-1200. High thread count cotton sheets blended with fabrics such as polyester or silk is often referred to as sateen. Sateen is with a glossy finish and feel much like satin.
Many people prefer the feel of cotton flannel waterbed sheet. Cotton flannel sheets can be very tender and comfortable. Sleeping on flannel sheets are cozy and feel like sleeping on soft cotton flannel pajamas.
The term percale is often confused by many people think that it is a blend of cotton and polyester. The term refers to the tightness of percale weave with a thread count of two ways that the minimum standard.
Percale waterbed sheets can be one hundred percent cotton or a blend of cotton, polyester, nylon or other fabric and have a different feel than one hundred percent cotton.
The thread used in the production of percale fabric is treated in a way that tightens the threads and reduces the amount of shedding. Percale will hold its shape and finish longer than lower thread count sheets muslin which has a tendency toward pilling, with the fabric getting rough and fuzzy with prolonged use and repeated washings.
A luxurious choice for many folks will stain sheets. Satin is very smooth, glossy fabric woven typical made from silk or synthetic fabric polyester or nylon. There are different grades of satin that can affect the durability and appearance of fabrics. Silk satin is soft and very close woven.
Although a quality fabric which can make for a cheap manufactured waterbed sheet. Factors such as stitching and proper sizing can affect how how the sheets fit your waterbed and how long it will last. A sheet made from even the best fabrics and poorly sewn will not last. A waterbed sheets that is not properly sized can literally come apart at the seams.
Always make your choices based on thread count and overall quality so your next buying waterbed sheets are a smart and comfortable one.
