Tree Climbing: So You Want to be a tree climber
When I was really young, climbing trees was like eating candy for me. If it had branches, I had to climb it. The steep hill behind grandma's house is covered with towering mango trees. I would spend hours there going from branch to branch high in the canopies, even tree to tree without touching the ground. As an adult, it's fantastic to know that climbing trees is not required to be in life or feet, literally. It's wonderful to be able to use the rope now. Wherever I go, all I was looking for the next tree to climb.
Climbing up trees means a tree and moving around until the canopy. Many people are not even aware that it an actual sport. But then, it has only been recognized as one of the last 20 years. Your birth is required in a rope, a harness and a helmet. That that's all. And you do not have to worry if you are not athletically fit. If you can walk a mile, you can climb trees. Even a minimally fit People can do it. And it is such fun!
There are some really good advantages to tree climbing. This is a great way to exercise. You probably discover muscle groups that you have not noticed before. If you've got nice trees in your area and a good number of them, your scenery will keep changing. That'll add some excitement to the workout. No boredom there. High above the ground, probably in mid-air, your whole perspective changes. Actually, the bird-eye view, the world is a different place. Who knows what you realize about your life just by climbing a tree. And unless for your first investment in gear, there really is not much else to spend your money on. Paying to use a climbing structure, or to build one, definitely not needed. Trees are all around us, virtually anywhere, at any time of year.
Since you are directly working on a big thing with life, some rules, or safety measures, should follow in respect of life, and to honor the sport. The most important rule involve yourself. Stay "on the rope" all the time by staying connected to your rope. Do not forget the fall. And not just rely on yourself to learn how to do it. Get training from a qualified teacher. Wear the right gear and have the right equipment, however basic it may be. Do not climb trees with branches near power lines. Just do not risk it. Electrocution is a tragic sign of complete disregard for one's safety. It is completely avoidable.
Protecting the trees and its natural environment will require their own safety measures. When you decide to climb a tree, you should inspect it thoroughly for any signs of risk or weakness before you climb. If you notice something that seems wrong, move on. If it's a go, otherwise, you may want to use cambium savers. They will protect the trees with thin bark from rope friction. It is based on a tree you choose. And, please, do not willingly injure a tree, especially by use leg spikes or any other implement that you must destroy the tree to be used (such as a gaff). You do not want to go around leaving injured trees in your face. Respect the sport, respect the trees.
Sometimes it becomes necessary to do a little branch trimming. Use caution, especially in the dead branches. Ensure that all climbers are standing clear. Falling branches should drop unhindered all the way to the ground. Maybe you can use the branches trimmed as a landfill in the surrounding area.
Be wary of living things in the old growth trees. Special plant communities can be found anywhere in or near trees. Do not disturb them. animals and plants that they really should leave the nest alone. Be aware that ground cover under and around trees. Take care not to damage if what can be delicate or rare plants.
When it was time to go up, you will have some choices. If you want to be a free and not just climb a tree climber (ha!), the rope is attached to you but only as a safety measure in case you fall It is not going to help whatever As a free solo climber, rope is used not at all repeat :…. Not all your life is literally in your own hands. But you've only just decided to be a tree climber so you do not go there. Your focus is on tree climbing rope.
There are three basic methods for tree climbing the rope. There is the single rope technique (SRT), the double rope technique (DRT) and the lead climbing techniques. Sa SRT, a throw line is used to reach a high branch. The climbing rope is then pulled over the branch and secured in place. You then climb up the climbing rope. Sa DRT, a high branch is attained with SRT. After both ends of the climbing rope is attached to the climber climbing on a sequence of knots around (makes climbing much easier). A tug in either direction will move the climber. Using a modified Blake's hitch for basic knot, the climber simply have to let go of the rope to stop in place. Very cool. The basic climbing technique involves a lead climber who ascends the tree as a free climber. Along the way, protection points are set up as slings banded around the tree's limbs. At the top, the lead climber can set up a belay (top rope) for other climbers to climb. Otherwise, only the lead climber rappels down.
Tree climbing is an exciting way to stay fit and active. It is also quite peaceful and, somehow, sometimes rejuvenating you're up to canopy. If you know what gear you need, how to protect and not damage trees, if you know how to climb them safely, imagine the heights you can reach. The peace you can find. Trees are wondrous and life-giving. Enjoy it and be careful up there!
