The Director of Florida International University's Laboratory for Coastal Research, Stephen Leatherman's beach rankings previously number two in its list of declaring it his favorite beach in Hawaii but now this year it has topped his list.
Leatherman said that if he were ever to make it to Hawaii, it is this beach that he assigned to. The professor uses the beach as his luxury retreat, 'If I want to get away from it all and forget about the rest of the world, Hanalei is about the best places to go, as far as I know. '
And it's not just the beach that attracts doctors there are also the surrounding areas, the land Hanelei inhabits is quite staggering, some of the towering tropical paradise. 'The setting of the beach is fantastic, a real idyllic getaway ', Leatherman said about the Hanalei area.
This lack of progress means the beach area retains a relatively relaxed environment free of the hysteria of many beaches and giving you enough room for snorkeling and swimming. Of course it also leaves plenty of room and the beach for lazing under a full sunlight.
Though of course the beach is no secret held only by Leatherman, there are many more tourists reach here and return regularly, as in a favorite spot.
Surfers often flock here, to take on the sights as they float in the pastoral water, the mountains hover above and the blue water glistens below them. The combination of white wash of shimmering sand and water make it an indispensable place for those seeking of luxury and those with a penchant for the ocean.
Although the beach retains an almost silent environment, the beach is rather famous in the world, making it look in a few movies, and one of the most famous love scenes of all time. The beach is featured in the recent Ben Stiller film Tropic Thunder but most famously in From Here to Eternity.
Many know the scene, the iconic kiss between Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr in 1953 classic Fred Zimmerman's. A controversial scene in his time, two scantily clad figures, leaned on a black and white beach as the waves caress tongue over them. The beach is the Hanalei, much as a star of the scene as actors in Hollywood.
Now that the area remains unspoiled and are home to many Hawaii rentals bringing tourists from around the world each year.
