Could It Be useful to Fold Pocket Aces?
For most poker players involved in the Texas Hold 'Em and other variations Hold 'em games, being dealt a pair of aces pre-flop is one of the best things happen to them. However, when, given the possible situations exist out there, it might be a good idea to actually fold it into a play and let you pass by?
It may be surprising but there are actually quite a few different scenarios in which you can fold your pocket aces at the start of a round rather than take the risk of going head-to-head with another player or players, both in the regular game and especially in tournament settings.
In a regular play situation, for example, a case can where have you been holding a pocket pair of aces, while four or five of your opponents has remained in play to see failures. If one or more it has been steadily increasing and being called, you can usually assume that either he was holding a good hand or one of your other opponents may holding a good one as well. In many cases, one of the cards in your opponents' hands may be one of your other aces you are looking for the next river flop, or open. If this is the case, you may want to face the situation and consider folding your cards and seating the round. At best, a pair of aces pocket has a 70% chance of pulling through and making a winning hand out of a round, while at worst, the ratio can drop to nearly 50%. Pouched Aces, the only other card that you can possibly get to improve your hand is another ace.
With this many opponents are still in the game, chances are quite high that one or more of the aces you need is in one of your opponents' hands. A suitable jack and ten might even be there, that can give another player a chance at a straight flush that can easily take down most other hands out there. Be careful of this and consider carefully before putting your hard-earned chips on the line, as this is usually a good time to fold, regardless of what hand you may have.
Another good time to fold a pocket pair of aces is if you are in a tournament that runs towards the end and low in chips when a similar situation occurs. If you need to be in the top three to realize any return on your money, two or more of your competitors are going all-in and up to five People are still in the game, it will usually be a good idea to just fold and sit out the round – chances are someone will take the whole pot, knock two people at all, and leave you sitting on at least the third seat to guarantee a return on your money, as well as a chance at winning, if you're lucky.
Consider it well before getting involved in the game the next time you make a pair of pocket aces, as they sometimes can work against you just as easily as they can work for you.
