Kitchen Knife grinds Learning 3 Basic Types of grinds Kitchen Knife
Did you know title = "How to Sharpen Kitchen Knives"> how sharpen kitchen knives? Do you know what a kitchen knife grind is? The average everyday person who cooks in the kitchen of their home did not really know much about care and maintaining their knives, especially when it comes to kitchen knives sharpened. The people just love to cook and if they like me they enjoy watching cooking shows on TV or cable. Unfortunately, these shows teach people how to cook, and how to use their kitchen knives but they never seems to educate the viewer on how to sharpen their knives. So to learn how to sharpen your kitchen knives this is a good idea to be familiar the different types of kitchen knives that grinds the knife could have made.
One thing more than any other draws a debate among aficionados Kitchen knives are sharpened blade and how to sharpen the blade of the knife. Volumes have been written about the different angles of the knife blade working with Asian and European knives kitchen and kitchen knife which grind is the best all around grind. The fact of the matter is that every kind of kitchen knife grind has pros and cons. With this being said I feel that anyone who uses a knife in the kitchen every day should be aware of the pros and cons before going out and purchase
kitchen knife.
Often, when I was talking about title = "Knife sharpening"> knife sharpening I am talking about the geometry that is used to create cutting edge of the knife himself. In this article I will address I see some of the typical grinds knives used in kitchen knives so that you may be better informed about the kitchen knife grinds.
1. The Flat Grind: The flat ground kitchen knife has a "V" and that geometry can be seen when looking at the end of the kitchen knife from the tip itself. The spine of the blade the part that faces the ceiling is at the top of the grind, and the bottom most point to the main cutting edge of the grind "V". This type of grinding is commonly used for specific and accurate cutting when using a push cut or a draw cut and used for extreme chopping chores as well as the main blade is a razor Keen 18-20 degrees.
2. The Hollow grind: The hollow ground knife uses a concave appearance to inspect the knife from his tip. This is somewhat akin the "V" of flat grind. The type of grind makes the thickest spine, but the thinnest main cutting edge. The knife blade of a hollow earth was brutally sharp, the downside is that since the main cutting edge thin nature of this type of kitchen knife grind does not hold up for long chopping chores such as extreme and dull quickly. On the upside, a hollow ground grind kitchen knives are excellent for slicing and excels at work.
3. The chisel grind: The chisel ground knife a grind usually seen in the Japanese kitchen knife. The type of grind makes a half "V" when viewed from the tip of the knife. Depending on whether you is right or left hand knife of this type of grind is ground on one side only. Many people feel that this type of grind is the sharpest of all the grinds. In my opinion jury is out on that one. The type of grind is cut only in a way, being either the right or left and this of course depends on what side of the knife is ground. For most American kitchens is not the typical grind of the knife you see. however it is growing in popularity and deserves a look.
In this article we will look at three major kitchen knife grinds available today, there are others as well. If you found this information helpful and want to know more about how to sharpen kitchen knives and knives in general then please visit:

About the Author
I have been self employed for four years now. I became self employed out of necessity after losing my last job in the cutlery business in management. After thirty years I was out of a job and there are not many cutlery business out there and I did not want to travel to another state and start all over again. So, I bit the bullet and became my own boss. I have been making my living on my own terms ever since. I would not go back to the 9 to 5 ever again. I help a small select group of clients build and grow there own websites and blogs and occasionally because of my years in the cutlery biz I do private lessons in self defense. I have loved the last four years and only wish that I had become self employed sooner. Better late than never I guess.
