Personal Assistant Tips On Finding Where The Jobs Are
As someone looking to find work as a Personal Assistant, can be sure that by the time you find other positions have also found this, but the second part of getting hired is to stand out. On the next page, We will discuss the secrets that you can use to rise above the competition and how to make yourself look like the perfect choice for being their personal Assistant.
Agencies, headhunters, networking, word of mouth, special lists, the Internet, job sites, friends, family, and using your brain to find every place that could be a lead for a Personal helping position. There is even a technique of using Represents.com Who We also go over.
Once you've figured out which area you want to work on (music, entertainment, politics, sports, etc.), you can start forming in your search criteria.
One of the better places to start is with the placement agency. The good ones should not charge you a dime registration them. Inside is a list of more efficient agency, but you should be leery of those who want to try your desired that they have a secretary. It's not often that you take a typing, spelling, and math test like some agency placements have their candidate do. If your agency is placing seasoned Personal assistants, then they should sit down with you and go and check thoroughly your whole background. Remember, some of the Personal Assistant position out there was never do a single day of typing or filing. There are many who do, in fact a majority of them, but it is not the only criteria for getting position. As you will read again and again throughout this guide, things that you are accepted for first and foremost is, if your personality is similar to your boss's, and that your skill set compliments the position. Your age, experience, and job longevity is also important but secondary to it.
Another source for job seekers are your connections. Word of mouth can sometimes lead to a chance you may have heard about through conventional methods. You never know who knows. Your father may have a friend at work who just got an account with Shaq, and he just happens to be looking for a new Personal Assistant. You just never know. So put the word out. A lot.
Let's talk about the back door. Sometimes, especially when you new in this field, the doors all seemed locked up tight. So how do you this? One of the many things you need to know this guide is that when you are at work, must find creative and resourceful ways to get a task done. So why not be just as creative job hunting?
You've heard the term it many times before. Internet Hackers often use the back door to get on sites protected. So why should not you use creative back door to get more close to celebrities, or high-powered people are also protected. You just have to learn how to get in.
Let's say you are one example among many People who want to work in the entertainment business. It is a difficult business to crack and very often you see that you have no allies. So how does one get close to the star or the producer or director?
One way is to make the extra background or job. You need to register with one agency, the fees and take almost a whole day to get registered, but once you do, they will start calling you for various TV shows and movies. If you 're lucky, you may work on a show for a few days. The bad thing is that pay is not that big and the time is long. The good thing is how fast can You meet people and make connections that can potentially get you the kind of work you are actually looking for.
As you spend your time on a set, get to know the higher-ups. The production people, the crew, even the producer's assistant. As you begin to build a rapport with them can can gently let them know what your real goals. Sometimes they invite you to leave a resume to them, periodically, they heard an introductory position here or there.
The same technique can be used in volunteer work. Again, depending on the type of Personal Assistant you want to be, a number of prominent people, athletes, politicians and volunteer their time to various projects and is a great opportunity not only to contribute to your community, but work next to these people. I even know one woman who is now the Personal Assistant to a politician whom he met while working in homes for Homes.
Create you work for a florist to deliver high-end people? You are currently working in the mail room of an agency or PR firm representing A-list clients? If you know them your ambitions after you have proven what an honest, hardworking, dedicated employees you have, chances are you might be recommended that one clients needs a new Personal Assistant.
Again, any avenue or creative ways that you can put yourself in a position where the opportunities are there to meet the right connections, then you should take advantage of the back door.
I am not condoning running up to them and getting their faces. This can backfire in many ways, you can come off like a stalker, or weird, or pushy. However, if you do it in a subtle way, perhaps by making the acquaintance of charity staff and letting them know what you do, then maybe they could hear something and because they appreciate the volunteer effort on your part, it's a good chance that they can pass along your resume or information. But first, You should always show that you can be an energetic, dependable volunteers.
Searching the Internet will be a good tool to begin with. You do not know who's going to be doing the job posting, it could be the manager, the agent, a friend, the old maid, a relative, or even a search company. So yes, while hundreds of others may see this same ad, you should take the opportunity to investigate because they may not like all the others, there can be something that stands out in your resume that tells them this person will be the one.
You can not be sure when someone will post a new ad, you must to make your searches twice a day. When around 10:00 (because that's when the database of new information is usually uploaded, and again around 4:00 pm. Okay, so by this time perhaps you are saying big deal I put the Personal Assistant and I get the same useless junk others already seeing.
It may be true in some cases, but what we learn here is how to maximize the Internet to tell you more about a job ad then gives the information. Let's say that again, the ads you find about a particular position may not have enough information about to work, people, or the company. This guide will give you some tips and show you some tricks that can often reveal a lot more information and then they want to know.
Why is this helpful? Because sometimes an ad may promise more than the job really is, and by finding a more in-depth information, you can assess whether you really want to pursue the job or not. Or, the opposite may be true. An ad may give little information and turn out for a big, important people and they are afraid to disclose too much information.
So let's try some experiments. It is true that hundreds of people are going to come across some of the same results as you will find in your search, but then again, Some did not know how to search correctly. And just because you and someone else finds the same lead work, it is the rest of your package that makes the difference that gets hired. Your resume, your experience, how you interview, your clothes, your personality, everything goes in the mix when someone is deciding whether or not to hire you.
Let's get started. For our example we use Google for many search engines use Google's database for some of their own search. Type the words Personal Assistant and see what you get. At the top of the list you will notice the first couple of results are listed pay there. After that, you will most likely find the site you are trying to sell you something or get you to try some products. Not much help.
Now try it again and this time place quotes around the word "personal assistant" but this time let's also ads a few key words. You can try the job, classified, celebrity, placement, employment, position, artists, etc.
Try substituting the word, such as assistance, rent, work, work. Or try describes the area you want to work on, "personal assistant" AND "clothing design". Even better, let's use some examples from ads and get some key words to create a search criteria. Try to write the following Google search bar: "personal assistant "savvy, or try to repair, or computer skills. Notice now the different results you get. You still have to weed through several unrelated lists, but also notice that your search returns richer and closer to the results.
Now, let's say there's a job that you find interesting on Craig's list or Monster or EntertainmentCareers or showbizdata. But the information is very limited. You may be surprised by all the information you can get from this enigmatic job description. First, let's look at the ad itself. What are they looking for? Pay attention to the kind of phrasing it uses and the description. For example, it will use the word entertainer, or actors? It says athlete or sports personality? Grammy winner, or Grammy nominee? Do you know where this is going? The choice of words they use can indicate whether the position is for a real working star or someone who was a star and now a personality. You are welcome to apply for either but you know what you're getting into. Approach every job interview with open eyes and do your homework.
The second thing to notice is if the ad says that the task is simple but they have a bevy of skills, computers, internet research, errands, shopping, management at home, and they were asking for a few years experience, you can be sure that they think the job is easy, but they have no clue as on what is involved.
Why else would they no clue? It could be a manager or a representative posting of ads and really do not know all details important aspects of the job entails. Usually not a placement agency usually places Personal Assistant will get one odd job thrown at them by a referral. Or, the last Personal Assistant may be so great to work, following the minutia of the employer to employer really thinks the job is easy.
The next thing you always look for is the contact information. Do they leave a fax number or email? If it is a fax, it sometimes is easier to research positions one based on the number. Again, using Google you can type the fax number using dashes or dots and then press the search:
Test all three versions until you get the correct result 310-555-5555, 310.555.5555, (310) 555-5555
Want a real example of this? Scroll ICM Talent down contact information below and cut-n-paste their fax number in the Google search bar and look at the results.
A good deal of time you will find search results in a company name. If there is a contact name as well, even better. Why? Now you can go to their web site and see if there is a company directory. If not, you can still get some research done. If there is only a first name, and then it may be more difficult, but if the person listing the position has also put their last name, and then the next immediate step is to learn is how the company their email list.
Let's say for example the people, blah Judy, is from ICM Agency. Go to their web site and immediately to seek the "contact us" page. The first thing you should try to look for is how they list their email address. You'll definitely see that the end part says @ icmtalent (dot) com. But let's start phase info (at) icmtalent? Or, Submission @ icmtalent ? What now? The next step is to learn how they enter a person's name to their email address. Because if you can figure this out, you now have a direct contact within their agency. The way to find out that it can be simple.
Type in: target = "_new"> www.betterwhois.com. Type in the web address for the company (Although what follows the @ symbol) and you will come up with a page that says reserved. Next, scroll down the page and click on "more info" link. Now you can see their contact information? No big deal, right? But hey, contacts and email the administrator has the same last part icmtalent.com. And, this time by their names:
Administrative Contact: International Creative MGMT Chun, Greg gchun @ icmtalent (dot) com, 10250 Constellation Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90067 Phone: 310-550-4000 Fax: 999 999 9999
So now it's a good bet that ALL of company email addresses using a first initial and last name, like Greg's email. Great. Now, using the same logic, you can be sure that you may have the correct email address for Judy blah, people who are looking to fill the position. You can email her directly. But there's still more information you can gather.
If you now type "ICM actors" into Google, you will eventually find some pages with names of clients, former clients, and some of their agents;
ICM represents high-profile clients including Chris Rock, Halle Berry, and Beyonce Knowles. ICM also arranged financing for the Oscar-nominated films like "Gosford Park, Moulin Rouge," and "The Fellowship of the Ring." The agency has lost several star agent in the past year, including big-name clients (including Cameron Diaz and Julia Roberts) to its competitors. ICM was formed in 1975 by the merger of Creative Management Associates and the International Famous Agency.
More good info. With the new information, let's move at.
Next, let's go (Who stands) whorepresents (dot) com. For this one, you may need to sign up for a subscription (about $ 9 a month). Here, if you type the Agent's name you will get a list of their clients. And vice versa, if you type top you'll get a list of their representatives.
Back to our search ad. Let's say you found a job ad looking for a Personal Assistant in an Older A-list actress. (For fun, kind of an older-list actor in the search engine Google and see what results you find.)
You can probably narrow it down based on the description ad: "Older A-list actor" looking for a Personal Assistant. Submit resume to: … You can guess that this is not Michele Trackenberg or Megan Fox and assume It can be someone like Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren, Judi Dench or Dame. Back to Google and type "actresses ICM" in the search bar and see results.
After scrolling through several pages and review the results to a page that finds a list of actors and actresses. After typing some names of artists who represent the database, Anjelica Huston came up as an actress ICM. Clicking on its name, you will have his agent Boaty Boatwright.
With a little work, you can become a creative detective and start to read between the lines of ads posted on the web. It will take a little ingenuity, and you can not always get it right, but you can start to narrow your search. Who knows! Can you come across another celebrity has not thought about before. Use the contact information of the agent's to send a nice letter and resume, yes by snail mail or email, introduce yourself and asking them to keep on file for consideration should be a position open up. Most likely, the email can go directly to the agent's assistant. So open, honest and ask to be considered or kept in mind for something in the future.
Then you can Use your discretion, research, and resources of what you now know about celebrities and determine if it is someone you want to work for. In your research may also learn or hear that a particular celebrity is either difficult or that they will go through a lot of assistants. But do not rely on rumor just because there is always rumor: "This one is a psycho," 'That's one hard labor for ",' I've heard one throws things. "Yes, there are some bad bosses out there. In ANY business. But unless you have direct information about your potential employer, do not listen to speculation and gossip or you may miss out on some really good opportunities.
